Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Rangmel. You accept them when you tick each point of the agreement at registration. They work together with our Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, Safety Guide and Refund Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. What this service is

Rangmel is a dating and social discovery app for LGBTQIA+ adults in India. It shows you people who are looking for people like you, and it opens a conversation when two people have both said yes.

2. Who may use it

• You must be 18 years or older. Accounts we believe belong to a minor are removed immediately and permanently, without notice and without refund.
• One person, one account.
• You must not be barred from using the service under any applicable law.
• You may present yourself under the name and gender that are yours. Using someone else's photographs or identity is impersonation and ends the account.

3. Matching and messaging

• A conversation opens only when both people have swiped right. There is no way to message someone who has not matched with you.
• Either person can unmatch at any time, which closes the conversation for both.
• Blocking is stronger than unmatching: it is permanent until you undo it, it survives an unmatch, and the blocked person is never told.
• Phone numbers, email addresses, handles and links are masked inside chat. This is a safety measure, not a restriction on you: share your details directly when you decide to, outside the masking, at your own risk.

4. Verification, and what a badge does not mean

Identity verification is optional. You can use every part of this app without submitting a document. If you do submit one, a person on our team reviews it, as set out in the Identity Verification Policy.

5. What it costs

Nothing. There is no paid tier, no subscription and no in-app purchase. Every feature — including seeing who liked you, the full filters, incognito, travel and read receipts — is available to every member.

• Your use of the app is governed by a daily allowance of points. A like costs a point, a standout and a boost cost more, and passing, matching and messaging cost nothing.
• The allowance refills every day and does not carry over. It exists to stop a single account consuming a disproportionate share of the service, and for no other reason.
• Running out is never a prompt to pay, because there is nothing to pay. It is a prompt to come back tomorrow.
• We may change the allowance or what actions cost. We will not introduce a charge for matching or messaging a match.

If we ever do introduce an optional paid tier, it will be announced in the app before it starts, it will not remove anything that is free today, and the Refund Policy will apply to it. Safety and privacy features — photo privacy, hiding your distance, quick exit, the PIN lock, blocking, reporting and verification — will never be paid features, for anyone.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of your photographs and text. You grant us a limited, revocable licence to store them and show them to the people you have chosen to show them to, under the privacy setting on your profile. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

You confirm that you have the right to upload each photograph, that it is of you, and that nobody else appearing in it objects.

7. What will end your account

• Being under 18, or misrepresenting your age.
• Harassment, threats, hate speech, or abuse directed at anyone's gender, orientation, caste, religion, disability or HIV status.
• Outing somebody. Sharing another member's photographs, messages, identity, orientation or gender history outside this app, or threatening to, is treated as one of the most serious things you can do here. It ends the account on the first occurrence.
• Sending sexual content to someone who has not asked for it.
• Impersonation, catfishing, or using another person's photographs.
• Soliciting money, investment, cryptocurrency or gifts from other members.
• Offering or requesting paid sexual services or paid companionship.
• Scraping, automating or reselling access to the service or to member data.

8. Our role, and its limits

We operate a platform. We do not introduce, vouch for, supervise or accompany anyone. We do not screen for criminal history. We cannot verify that anyone is who they say they are, whether or not they carry a badge.

Meetings you arrange are yours. You decide whether, when and where to meet; you arrange your own transport; you are responsible for your own safety and your own decisions.

We moderate reports, and we act on them, but we cannot read every message in advance and we do not claim to.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by Indian law, our total liability to you for any claim connected with this service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. We are not liable for the conduct of other members, for anything that happens when you meet someone, or for loss that we could not reasonably have foreseen.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for our own fraud or gross negligence.

10. Suspension and deletion

We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we tell you why. We do not have to give notice before removing an account for a safety reason, and we will not, when notice would put somebody at risk.

You can pause your profile at any time without losing anything, or delete your account permanently from your account settings.

11. Changes

We may change these terms. Material changes are shown in the app before they take effect, and continuing to use the service after that is acceptance. Changes to what you consented to are re-consented, not assumed.

12. Law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Delhi.

For complaints, our grievance officer is named on the Grievance Redressal page, as required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules, 2021 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
