First date ideas in Hyderabad for matched couples
Low-pressure first dates in Hyderabad: Lamakaan in Banjara Hills, a queer-friendly café in Sainikpuri, lakeside walks and more, with a safety-first plan for meeting someone from an app.
You have matched, talked, and video-called. Now you need a first date that is public, relaxed, and easy to extend or end. Hyderabad's best options are not the obvious ones: a cultural centre with a cheap Irani café, a café that calls itself the city's first LGBTQ+ café, and a couple of busy public walks for when you want to move and talk.

The ideas
1. Lamakaan, Banjara Hills
An open, non-profit cultural space off Road No. 1, opposite GVK One Mall, with plays, films, talks and markets, many of them free, and an Irani café with cheap chai and snacks (Wikipedia). It regularly hosts queer programming; in December 2025 it held a community screening of the queer short film Rafu (ETV Bharat). Check the events page, pick something that gives you both a thing to talk about, and have chai after. The best first date in the city for under ₹200.
2. People's Choice Café, Sainikpuri
In Raghavendra Colony, Sainikpuri, described by LBB as Hyderabad's first LGBTQ+ café, a place where people can be comfortable being themselves, with a Sunday "Rainbow Menu" (LBB, 2022). It is tucked into residential lanes, so agree on the exact location first. The listing is from 2022: call before you go.
3. A lakeside walk at Durgam Cheruvu
The lake near Madhapur and Jubilee Hills, with its cable bridge lit up in the evening. Busy, public and free. Walking side by side is easier than facing each other across a table if either of you is nervous.
4. Shilparamam, Madhapur
The arts-and-crafts village, ticketed, with stalls, performances and plenty of space to wander. Good for a daytime date where the setting fills the gaps.
5. A queer event, together
The Mobbera Foundation's Queer Fiesta in June 2025 drew over 800 people to mark ten years of Pride events in Hyderabad (LBB). Community events like this, screenings and mixers are a natural second date: you are among people who get it, and you can leave whenever you like.
Making the first date easy
- Daytime or early evening, somewhere busy. Everything above qualifies.
- Get there yourself, by metro or your own cab, both ways.
- Tell a friend the place, the time and the person's name, and share your live location.
- Split the bill, or take turns. Especially easy when the bill is two chais.
- Consent is ongoing, and the street is not the café. Follow the more cautious person's lead.
- Have an exit. "I have a family thing at seven" works in every Hyderabad household.
