Is Grindr XTRA worth it in India? What you get, and free alternatives

Grindr is free to download, and for many men in India the free version is enough. The question is whether the paid tiers, XTRA and Unlimited, add enough to justify a monthly charge. Here is what each includes according to Grindr's own help centre, who each is worth it for, and what you can get without paying at all.

What it costs in India

Prices in India are much lower than in the US and differ by plan length, by Play Store versus App Store, and over time. Any rupee figure printed here would be out of date within months, so check the price shown in the app's upgrade screen or the store listing on the day you buy. Two tips: longer plans are cheaper per month, and cancelling in the store before renewal is the only way to stop the next charge.

Is it worth it?

XTRA is worth it if you use Grindr daily in a dense city, the ads bother you, and you want to filter a very long grid down. Unlimited is worth it if incognito or unsending matter to you, which for someone who is not out is a real consideration. Neither is worth it if you open the app a few times a week; the free grid is enough.

Free alternatives

If what you want from XTRA or Unlimited is privacy rather than a bigger grid, some apps give that away.
